Wimmera Plains Energy Facility

A wind farm project near Horsham in Western Victoria.

Overview

The Wimmera Plains Energy Facility is a wind farm and battery project proposed to be built around 15km north of Horsham in Western Victoria. It is to be built on freehold farming land and farm practices will carry on during the construction and operation stages.

The project will deliver economic benefit to the local community, diversify farm income and provide a range of community benefits. It will also generate affordable, reliable and clean electricity for Victorian homes and businesses.

The development will include construction of a wind farm and battery project.

  1. The Wimmera Plains Energy Facility is currently in the development phase.

  2. The project infrastructure will occupy less than 3% of the total site and will operate alongside existing farming activities.

  3. Estimated generating capacity of 300 megawatts, equivalent to powering up to 202,000 average Victorian homes.

  4. Benefits will be shared with landholders, neighbours, local council, First Nations groups and the broader community.

  5. Construction will include up to 52 wind turbines with a maximum tip height of 247 meters.

  6. A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 100MW / 400MWh is included in the plans.

  7. The project will connect into the existing electricity transmission network.
