Plains-wanderer education program
In 2024, BayWa r.e. partnered with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, Local Land Service, Taronga Western Plains Zoo, local schools and landholders to fund and deliver a conservation and education program about the endangered plains-wanderer bird species.
Local kids from primary schools in Hay learned all about the plains-wanderer birds’ importance and ecology. They went on an excursion to Taronga Zoo where they observed the conservation and breeding program. The program was rounded out with a visit to local habitat and an exhibition day, where the young artists showed off their plains-wanderer themed art work.
As the project moves towards construction and operation, BayWa r.e. will continue to fund and support plains-wanderer conservation efforts.
