BayWa r.e. Australia surges into 2022 adding another planning approval to its fast-growing renewables portfolio.
BayWa r.e. Australia has added to its fast-growing portfolio of renewable energy projects with planning approval granted for its solar farm near Wagga Wagga, New South Wales.
The Sandy Creek Solar Farm will be constructed on a 42-hectare site adjacent to the Olympic Highway and a power distribution line, 16km from Wagga at Uranquinty.
The location and proximity to the area’s largest freight distribution hub and population centre in Wagga will significantly benefit construction in the thriving local government area that is embracing solar power.
About 40,000 ground-mounted solar panels will generate up to 12 MW, 40 jobs and clean green energy for 7,500 households.
The project has been deemed as regionally significant by supportive local and state government authorities.
BayWa r.e. Projects Australia Managing Director Fleur Yaxley welcomed the development’s approval saying the site is “ideal”.
“This is just one of those special projects showcasing renewable energy,” Ms Yaxley said.
“It shows us how comfortably community can be connected with construction and generation while reducing carbon emissions and the negative effects of climate change.”
- The Sandy Creek Solar Farm approval in late December 2021 follows the approval earlier last year for two other projects for BayWa r.e. Projects Australia Wimmera Plains Energy Facility 15km from Horsham, in Victoria’s west will host up to 52 turbines and associated infrastructure. The 300MW project will power more than 200,000 homes and is optimally sited on existing transmission infrastructure and in a region of high wind resource. The development was approved by the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning in July 2021 with resounding community and government support.
- The 26 MW Yarren Hut Solar Farm 16 km from Nyngan, in central NSW will be constructed on a flat 90-hectare site with high solar irradiance, and within the route of an existing power distribution line. This development was approved by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment in January 2021 and received the support of Bogan Shire Council.
